OverviewAs GW Carpentry Ltd is heavily committed towards Health and Safety and views it as an integral part of the works it undertakes, the company is accredited within The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS).
GW Carpentry Ltd work closely with specialist Health and Safety Consultants to ensure a good Health and Safety Culture is maintained throughout every element of the business ensuring that competent Health and Safety advice is made available to all employees.
Safety Management System
GW Carpentry has had a Safety Management System for many years now that comprises mainly of a Health and Safety Policy together with Supporting Documentation, Procedures, Information and Guidance.
This Safety Management System is directly based on HSG65: “Successful Health and Safety Management”, a HSE Publication and Approved Code of Practice on how to manage Health and Safety successfully.
The Health & Safety Policy
The GW Carpentry Health and Safety Policy is reviewed annually, as is good practice. Reviews would also take place where there are significant changes in process or business. Regular reviews such as this ensure that The Health and Safety Policy all major contains references to;
1. Any relevant Health and Safety Legislation
2. Industry and ‘Best Practice’ Guidelines
3. Approved Codes of Practice
4. Up to Date Terminology and;
5. Health and Safety Executive Guidance
Site Health & Safety File
For every construction site or location attended by GW Carpentry Ltd, a Site Health and Safety File is generated. This is to ensure the Health and Safety of all GW Carpentry operatives at varying locations by undertaking statutory inspections of equipment and ensuring a good safe system of work is in place.
Safe System of Work
GW Carpentry Ltd always ensures that a good safe system of work is in place.
A GW Carpentry safe system of work comprises of a ‘suitable and sufficient’ risk assessment accompanied by a method statement detailing the specific safe sequence of works to be undertaken.
Monitoring Health & Safety
GW Carpentry monitor Health and Safety on construction sites by ensuring a Site Supervisor/Foreman is present on site to conduct Health and Safety Inspections of the working environment, on equipment present and to monitor overall working practices. GW Carpentry’s Health and Safety Advisors also conduct Health and Safety Inspections on all sites to ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are adhered to and that the Health and Safety of operatives on site is never compromised.
Accident Reporting
GW Carpentry is happy to state that due to pro-active management of Health and Safety, accidents and incidents are a rare occurrence within the company. GW Carpentry encourages all employees to report any accidents and incidents to management to ensure that thorough investigation can be undertaken to ensure that every accident or incident is learnt from to ensure that a similar situation can never occur again. GW Carpentry operates a ‘no blame culture’ in the hope that this encourages all of its operatives to feel free to reporting any instances to management, and understand the importance of doing so.
